Chapter 6

Raven had never been so scared in his life. He knew about the dangers of wild animals in the remote areas of Utah’s wilderness, but he hadn’t been doing anything that would have brought the mountain lion near. They had a terrible sense of smell and weren’t interested in tangling with humans. They were wary, wily creatures who were far more cautious than most people thought. But that didn’t change the fact that one of them was right behind him. Knowing that if he moved he was probably dead, Raven had frozen in place, praying that William would come soon and have a gun.

William had come, but he didn’t need a firearm, not when he’d turned into the biggest goddamn wolf Raven had ever seen. And there was no question in his mind that what he was seeing was William because he’d witnessed the shift. William had been standing on the porch, his gaze darting between Raven and the mountain lion when he’d slowly changed into the wolf. It had been the most bizarre thing Raven had ever witnessed. It wasn’t a sudden transformation but gradual, almost as if William’s body melted and reformed as the wolf. As if he needed further proof, all of William’s clothing was now in a heap on the rough planks of the porch.

One tremendous roar from William the wolf had sent the mountain lion scurrying away, which was a relief, but then William had turned his attention onto Raven. Hunter-green eyes were surrounded by sleek black fur, but they held the same wary intelligence that they had when they’d been in William’s very human head.

Raven had tried to talk to him, but he didn’t seem to be getting through. He’d almost laughed when William tilted his big furry head just like domesticated dogs did when they heard a curious sound, but Raven feared the only thing that would have emerged from his mouth was the sound of hysteria. So he’d stayed silent and still. When William the wolf moved closer, Raven considered jumping into the truck, but he wouldn’t have enough time. He was better off staying right where he was. And then William had buried his nose right in Raven’s crotch.

Domesticated dogs did that as a means of identifying someone since it was the most scent-rich area they had access to, but at the moment, all Raven could do was openly pray that William didn’t bite him there. Not that he would welcome a bite elsewhere, just that that area would be far more terrifying to be injured in. Losing his dick would be bad enough, but having a guy he was fascinated with eat it while in wolf form was somehow worse. Not to mention crazy.

After getting a good snort of his manly parts, William the wolf backed away. Raven was thanking his lucky stars while digging in his pants for his cell. He wanted a picture. He needed some kind of evidence that William had shifted. When he gently called his name, William looked up, and Raven took a picture.
